Can I use anonymise.online before ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini or another LLM?
Yes. Anonymize the source, review the placeholders, download the private restore map, and send only the sanitized text to the external AI service. See the complete workflow.
Does anonymise.online use external AI to inspect my text?
No. Detection runs inside the application using local patterns and offline English and Italian language analysis. Your source text is not sent to an external AI provider for anonymization.
What can automatic detection find?
It covers common personal data, names with supporting context, email addresses, phone numbers, postal addresses, payment cards, banking identifiers, tax and identity fields, API credentials, access tokens and other high-confidence patterns.
Can I manually hide an entire phrase?
Yes. On the review page, select a phrase directly in the preview and choose Mark selected phrase. The phrase becomes a MANUALBLOCK placeholder.
Does the application save my text?
It is designed to process source text and restore-map uploads for the active workflow rather than keep them as a searchable user-document library. Aggregate operational counters do not include submitted text.
What are the Free limits?
Free supports 500 characters per text and 2 successful anonymizations per day, with no signup.
How do Plus, Pro and One-shot work?
Plus supports 4,000 characters and 3 anonymizations per day. Pro supports 10,000 characters and 5 per day. One-shot provides one successful text anonymization up to 3,000 characters plus one PDF.
When is usage counted?
Usage is counted after anonymization succeeds. Starting over, closing the page or ending the temporary premium session does not refund that completed use.
What is the difference between an access code and a recovery code?
The access code starts a temporary premium session. The recovery code cannot start a session; it creates replacement credentials if the access code is lost or compromised.
Can I restore text after an AI edits it?
Yes. Restoration is placeholder-based. The original fingerprint remains reference metadata, but changed surrounding text does not block restoration as long as the matching placeholders are still present.
Is the restore-map JSON sensitive?
Yes. It contains the original values required for de-anonymization. Keep it separate from the anonymized text and protect it like a secret.
How does PDF anonymization work?
PDF support is included in Free, Plus and Pro. The app detects PII in a real PDF text layer, lets you include, exclude or manually select words as MANUALBLOCK, then generates an anonymized PDF plus a private JSON restore map. Free includes 1 PDF/month, Plus 2/month, Pro 5/month, and One-shot includes 1 PDF while its access is active.
Can I restore an anonymized PDF?
Yes. Use the anonymized PDF with its matching PDF restore-map JSON on the PDF restore page. PDF maps contain no SHA-256 or source-file fingerprint; restoration uses the recorded page positions and original values.
